Who Needs Clubs to Fight?

There are always reasons to fight. You fight to live. Fight to protect someone. Fight to get emotions out of your system. And fight to prove something. This is the latter type of fight. Honestly, Nida is pretty shocked he managed to convince Omega to meet him here today, to even entertain the idea of fighting with a 'kid.' But somehow he's managed it, and Nida stretches on the padded floor of the gym floor (took a decent bribe to get the front desk guy of the gym to look the other way, and a promise that Nida would clean up after), frowning across at Omega.

"So, we going for a fist fight? Because that's not what I'm hoping to teach Theta. I can only do basic martial arts. You know, normal self defense stuff. I'm going to teach him that too, but the goal is something a bit more... useful in a bad situation."

That brings his gaze to the padded leather case in the corner. Walking here with that had been hard, though finding a bo-staff online had been surprisingly easy. Not that he'd use that for this. No, tambo would be better for Theta, but staff would come later. Easy to improvise a pole after all.

"Yeah, I guess so," Nida grins. "Thing is, you won't win anyway so I don't see how it's a concern.

"You know the thing you're doing won't work," Omega informs him. Nida keeps returning to this point, it's worth poking. "No matter how badly you want it to be true, there is no magic number of times you repeat that you're going to win that makes the Universe reshape itself to your hopes."

"Then let's see what the shape of the universe is," Nida smiles. He waits half a moment before darting in. He fakes left then spins and brings the staff as hard and fast as he can into Omega's leg.

Omega is not stupid, he knows Nida is going to aim for his knee. He moves out of the way even as Nida is faking left, and while the staff still makes contact, it's not nearly as bad as it could have been.

That does mean the left jab he hits Nida with comes from the shoulder, and it doesn't land with nearly enough force for his liking.

It does get enough force to get the tiniest since out of Nida. But he rolls aside with the punch that ends up hitting just below his collarbone. Staff tucked close to his body it is easy to spin away, then flash the weapon out. The best part of a polearm is the force multiplier it offers, and swinging it with a full body twist at omega's uninjured shoulder is easy.

Taking the hit to follow Nida seems like a good idea. Omega ignores the eletric pins that chase down his arm, throws a right hook in the general direction of Nida's kidneys.

He misses.

His accuracy is no doubt lessened by the fact that Nida, seeing the blow coming, simply sumersalts left. Mobility is easier when you are young and flexible.

Omega is neither, and he falls back into his Philly shell, waiting for Nida to come back, and for feeling to return to his fingers.

"Sell hit harder," Nida shrugs as he comes back to ready. "You're surprisingly patient for, well, you."

"What's that supposed to mean?" Omega growls. He's very patient. Has Nida never met the rest of the Ais?

"You've so clearly got anger issues," Nida shrugs briefly. "I mean, your weapon of choice is about discipline and self control, but then you brought the chain. Also discipline. That much discipline in a man I've heard has shouted at Theta? Self control issues. You've got an anger problem and you choose high discipline arts to try and keep control over yourself."

"One, being shouted at is not the end of the world." Omega wonders what Nida's been told. "Two, there is no trying. I have exqusite self-control."

"So you have a gopher who punches holes int he walls of your room?" Nida asks.

Omega toys with the idea of blaming Gamma. Nida's just winding him up, he knows, and he's not going to rise to the bait. "Do you think I let rodents in my house?"

"I think you punch walls because you want to punch your brothers. "

The little shit. Omega knows, knows, he's just saying that to make Omega angry.

And it's working. But Omega learned long ago to not let anger make him stupid. Otherwise he'd never get anything done.

"Why is your best friend a socially-awkward twelve year old boy? Did you mistake him for an easy target, that nobody would notice if he went missing?"

"My other best friend is a thirty something asshole who spends his free time fucking another of your brothers," Nida returns easily. "He is my type. Someone who is older than me and who can kick my ass. Theta is innocent and kind. Like the brothers and sisters I found at Garden. I want to protect him, help him grow confident and strong. Unlike his brothers."

Omega has to stop and think about that for a moment, because "asshole fucking his brother" does not really narrow it down. The ability to kick Nida's ass helps some. Not a lot, but some. "The terrorist?" It's that or Epsilon has been holding out on him.

But that's not really important. "And why do you keep saying that? You know nothing of raising a child! Any child, let alone mine!"

"I know enough about how to fail at raising a child. Happened enough at Garden. And you are missing the mark."

"The mark? And what might that be, oh Enlightened One?"

Omega reins himself in. Nida doesn't know what the hell he's talking about. Nida is full of shit. Nida is making stuff up.

Nida is fucking lucky, hitting so close to the truth. But Theta is safe and alive, right? He doesn't go around hurting people. There's a gulf between failed and not the best.

Right?

"Scared of his own shadow. Afraid of people. Afraid to live beyond his skateboarding. Children have hope. He has fear. And not just because it was hard on you, all that stuff. No, it's because he's scared of you. Scared of loss. Scared to step outside of his comfort zone lest you disappear, abandon him, or worst of all, fail to approve."

"Oh, so you're a goddamn mind reader now?" Nida is wrong, so wrong. Theta's not afraid of Omega. That would require Theta to respect him. Omega's not going to yell. That would mean Nida won.

"Because you are, quite simply, wrong about that."

"I'm the one he talks to about the things that scare him," Nida counters easily. "Tell me how wrong I am again, when I'm the one he trusts?"

Omega does not get into Nida's face. That would get him in range of the stick. "Oh, and he's told you I scare him?"

Nida's wrong. Omega doesn't scare Theta. And maybe that's the problem, maybe that's why Theta thinks he can do what he wants and act the scared child to get his way.

"Because I know he's not afraid of me leaving, of disappointing me. Because if he really was, he'd try harder.

He is trained to deal with anger, with his rage, to keep rational for a fight. Hyne help him Nida knows about restraint. But he can't help growling at that statement. Try harder?

"Trying harder isn't always the answer. Trying harder doesn't make this better! Trying doesn't win you a family when they've already chosen to do something stupid instead of being there, instead of supporting you. And you're not supporting him, because I see the same, terrified little child that I was when I was eight, and the fact that he's still that scared at thirteen is pathetic. It's on you. You coddle him, wrap him in a blanket to keep him safe all of his childhood because he's disabled, he's different and meanwhile there is anger around him. Yelling and punching and everything else. He is scared of who you can be around him, Omega, and he's scared of disappointing you. I saw him with the move. I heard it all. How you scared him, how you hurt him, and that's because you didn't prepare him. You were too busy with yourself!"

Letting another person end up like him, driven to try and prove themselves to parents who can't or won't be there? It will break the boy, and he's too good for that.
